A teenage boy from Springfield died in single vehicle car crash in McLean, Illinois on May 25.
Luke W. Peterson, 13, died around 1:15 a.m. at Carle Bromenn Medical Center, according to a news release from McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder.
The crash itself happened around midnight on U.S. Route 136, under the I-55 overpass. Peterson was reportedly a passenger in a mid-size SUV that left the roadway and crashed, Yoder said.
Yoder added in a news release on Tuesday that the preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt injuries related to the crash.
The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
McLean is about 50 miles from Springfield.
Along with the coroner’s office, the Illinois State Police are investigating.
