As an alum of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I was excited to see a major donation to the School of Freshwater Research (“UWM gets $10 million gift to expand freshwater sciences research,” May 14).
As the article pointed out, it is only one of three such institutions in the world. What is disturbing is how the article was started: “liberal philanthropist Lynde Uihlein…”
What does being politically liberal or conservative have to do with a donation to an academic research organization? Granted, it may be an election year and the Journal Sentinel wants to remind us of the largesse of liberals vs. conservatives.
For a publication that purports to be “non-biased,” particularly with an article that has nothing to do with a political topic, why was the article started this way? It contributes nothing to the relevance or significance of the article or the donation.
Was it just a subtle ploy to remind voters of how much liberals give back to the system? In a nutshell, the choice of words, particularly at the front of the article, represent a poor journalistic choice and should never have been included.
