As the Pensacola Fire Department continues working a fire at EMR Southern Recycling that began around 2 a.m. Tuesday, the city and county are alerting residents of the potential smoke plume that could make its way north.
PFD personnel began fighting a fire at the recycling plant just before 2 a.m. May 26 and have the fire 70% contained, but officials are warning residents that the smoke plume from the fire could reach well past Brent lane and the Marcus Pointe Golf Club.
“Residents with respiratory illnesses are advised to take precautions,” a release from Escambia County Emergency Management said.
In 2023 and 2024, fires erupted at EMR Recycling that took firefighters 10 and seven hours, respectively, to put out.
The PFD has not reported any injuries. Further information has not been released.
This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
