Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark took part in one of racing’s top traditions on Sunday.
Fresh off another strong performance in the Fever’s 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night, Clark took center stage at the Indy 500 on Sunday. Clark served as grand marshal at the Indy 500, giving the command for drivers to their cars.
Clark joined a list of celebrities that includes Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Blake Shelton who have served as grand marshal of the Indy 500.
“I’m honored to represent Gainbridge as Grand Marshal of the Indy 500,” Clark said in a statement before the race. “I’m looking forward to experiencing an iconic piece of what makes Indiana so special and being part of the time-honored tradition of ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.’”
Clark has had a scorching hot start to her third WNBA campaign, setting numerous league records in the process. She is averaging 23.8 points per game on 43.2% field goal shooting, 34.8% shooting from 3-point land and 96.4% shooting at the free-throw line. The 6-foot guard is also averaging 9 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in five games played.
Indiana returns to action with another date against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday (May 28) at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Game time is 9 p.m. CT. The game will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
