Vote for IndyStar's track and field Athlete of the Week, May 18-23

Congratulations to Hamilton Southeastern junior Sam Long, who was voted by readers as the IndyStar’s track and field Athlete of the Week for May 11-16.

It’s time to vote for a new Athlete of the Week for the week of May 18-23.

Boys and girls sectionals were held this past week with the top athletes advancing to the regional round of the postseason.

Here are the nominees for the IndyStar’s high school track and field athlete. IndyStar readers vote to decide this week’s winner. Voting closes at noon on Thursday, May 28. The poll is at the bottom of the article.

Banner Barnes, Noblesville, Jr.

Barnes clinched two-first place wins at the boys sectional meet at Fishers. He won the 800 meters (1:51.66) and 1600 meters (4:17.70).

Cameron Berry, Cathedral, Fr.

Berry secured first place in the 100-meter dash at the boys sectional meet at Lawrence Central on May 21. He crossed the finish line at 10.81 in the prelims before he ran a 10.65 in the finals.

Morgan Chestnut, Pike, Sr.

Chestnut placed second in two events at the girls sectional meet at Pike. She ran a 12.68 in the 100-meter dash and a 26.26 in the 200-meter dash finals.

Katelyn Eblen, Westfield, Jr.

Eblen won the 100 hurdles at the girls sectional meet at HSE. She recorded a time of 14.94 in the event. She also placed second in the 300 hurdles (44.26).

Mark Gates, Heritage Christian, Sr.

Gates took home first place in the discus event at the boys sectional meet at Lawrence Central. He won gold with a throw of 154 feet, 2 inches. He also placed sixth in the shot put.

Dylan Keck, Franklin Central, Sr.

Keck qualified for regionals in two individual events at the boys sectional meet at Greenfield-Central. He won the 200-meter dash (22.12) and 100-meter dash (11.09).

Vincent Rozzi, Fishers, Sr.

Rozzi placed first in the 200-meter dash at the boys sectional meet at Fishers. He ran a second-place time of 22.24 in the prelims before he clocked in a winning time of 21.84 in the finals.

Julia Score, Bishop Chatard, Sr.

Score won two events at the girls sectional meet at Lawrence Central. She placed first in the 1600 meters (4:53.44) and 3200 meters (11:17.35).

Chloe Senefeld, Hamilton Southeastern, Sr.

Senefeld secured the second-fastest time (41.44) in state history in the 300 hurdles at the girls sectional meet at HSE. Individually, she also placed second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.08.

Cierra Smith, Brownsburg, Sr.

Smith had an excellent night at the girls sectional meet at Zionsville. She won the 100 hurdles (14.80) and placed second in the 300 hurdles (44.81).
