Oaklei Davis of Monroe Central girls track and field has been voted The Star Press East Central Indiana high school Athlete of the Week for May 11-16, brought to you by IU Health.
Davis earned all-conference honors in three events at the Mid-Eastern Conference Championships on Friday, May 14, winning the high jump (4-8 feet), shot put (32-11.5 feet) and helping win the 4×100 (53.53 seconds). Davis helped Monroe Central bring home the girls team title with a team score of 118.
Davis received 14,211 votes out of 34,268 votes cast (41.47%). This week’s runner-up was Bryleigh Hiatt of Cowan softball, who received 11,562 votes (41.47%).
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated and can be named Athlete of the Week only once per season, per sport. Athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
