The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that, where possible, construction lane closures will be lifted for the Memorial Day weekend to ease holiday travel.
Non-emergency roadwork closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Friday, May 22, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25. However, some closures will remain in place, and drivers should expect delays in those areas and plan for additional travel time.
IDOT advises motorists to stay alert in work zones, follow posted signage and speed limits, avoid using mobile devices, and watch for workers and equipment.
