Yankees’ pitching legend Mariano Rivera’s new hot sauce collection, “Mo’s Heat,” has launched just over the state line, exclusively at Connecticut’s Cingari Family Markets’ ShopRite stores.
Most of the stores are in Fairfield County, close to Westchester and lower Putnam counties, including one in Danbury, a news release said.
The ‘Cutter,’ ‘Curve’ and ‘Sinker’ sauces named after pitches
The baseball Hall of Famer’s collection has three sauces. There’s “the Cutter,” a sauce with habanero pepper named for one of Rivera’s most stunningly effective pitches from his years as the Yankees’ iconic closer. The other sauces are “the Curve” and “the Sinker,” other pitches in his arsenal.
The sauces debut at Cingari Family Markets ShopRites “for a limited time before expanding to additional retailers,” the release said.
“I spent my career bringing the heat on the mound, and now I’m proud to bring that same passion to the kitchen,” Rivera said in the release. “Mo’s Heat is a celebration of my roots in Puerto Caimito, Panama, my journey, and the flavors I grew up with.”
The three sauces are described as “the debut lineup,” with each having “distinct flavor profiles designed to complement a wide range of tastes and occasions. Rooted in culture and built with intention, Mo’s Heat brings a new perspective to the category, where flavor comes first and heat follows.”
Rivera greeted people Wednesday, May 20, at one of the stores, in Stamford, Connecticut, where he promoted the sauce collection.
Sauces licensed by Major League Baseball
Mo’s Heat, the release said, is produced in partnership with D’Elidas, one of Panama’s hot sauce producers, and officially licensed by Major League Baseball.
In an illustrious career, Rivera took to the mound to shut down other teams, preserving a starting pitcher’s lead or to keep the Yanks in a tight game. He famously walked to the mound to the ominous sounds of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”
In 2019, Rivera received receive a key to the city of New Rochelle with a parade through the city.
