Corning continued its stranglehold on Southern Tier Athletic Conference track & field with a sweep of the girls and boys team titles at the conference’s championship meet Wednesday, May 20 at Vestal High School.
Corning’s girls won their seventh consecutive STAC title. The Corning boys made it eight championships in a row.
Runners-up were the Ithaca boys and Oneonta girls.
Hawks’ McLaughlin a quadruple winner
Corning senior Cella McLaughlin, who has won multiple state titles in the 100 hurdles and long jump, delivered a STAC farewell to remember, winning three individual events and contributing to a relay victory.
The University of Pittsburgh commit won the 100-meter dash (12.07 seconds), the 100 hurdles (14.01), and the long jump (18 feet, 5.25 inches).
She joined Chinonyerem Okoro, Brooklyn Gordon, and Claire Devlin in posting a 12-second margin of victory in the 1600 relay (4:02.51).
McLaughlin was the only boys or girls competitor to win multiple individual events.
