The Chicago Bears are signing veteran running bak Salvon Ahmed, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Ahmed, former undrafted free agent out of Washington by the San Francisco 49ers, got his start with the Miami Dolphins from 2020-23. In 38 games, including four starts, Ahmed had 163 carries for 593 yards (3.6 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He added 40 receptions for 274 yards and one score.
The veteran running back also spent a brief stint on the Denver Broncos practice squad in 2023 before spending the next two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Ahmed suffered a season-ending ankle injury on a hip-drop tackle during training camp practice with the Colts last season. But, per Schultz, he’s “worked hard to get back” and now has a good opportunity with the Bears.
Ahmed joins a Bears running backs room led by D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, who led a top-three rushing attack in the NFL last season. With Travis Homer departing in free agency, Ahmed could slide into a depth and special teams role.
