Cobalt Institute of Math and Science celebrated a milestone Monday when the class of 2026 received their diplomas.
Sporting blue caps and gowns, 135 graduates turned their tassels during the commencement ceremony at High Desert Church in Victorville.
Among the graduates were Valedictorian Hailey Worby and Salutatorian Sofia Chavez.
In its 13th year of existence, Cobalt graduates achieved an unprecedented level of college readiness for the school, according to Victor Valley Union High School District officials
Over 98% of Cougar grads completed A-G coursework, qualifying them for CSU or UC acceptance. That number is up 4% from last year and is a record for Cobalt, district officials said.
As Principal Clarissa McNally addressed the graduates, she reminded them to thank their friends and family, school staff, and especially their parents.
“This victory belongs to the graduates,” McNally said, “but also to the parents and guardians.”
Cobalt Institute of Math and Science was created by the Victor Valley Union High School District in 2013 as a STEM-focused school of choice, serving grades 7 to 12.
The school has earned several awards, including being named a California Distinguished School in 2021 and a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School multiple times.
