This large exhibition features mixed media glass mosaic works by Michigan artist Michelle Sider in her largest collection to date. The exhibit includes 50 pieces created over the past 17 years. “This show is truly a dream come true,” said Sider in a statement. “I’ve envisioned a large-scale solo exhibit for years, and having the chance to bring that vision to life in such a beautiful, expansive gallery means so much to me. ‘Apartment House 1776’ at Cranbrook Art Museum

Billed as a “revolutionary, immersive operatic experience,” this production was originally conceived by John Cage for the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976. No two audience members will have the same experience as they listen to a chorus of voices drifting from apartment windows, staged inside the galleries of Cranbrook. 9 p.m. Thurs., 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Fri., plus six time slots between 2-9 p.m. Each Sat. Novi BBQ Fest — Fountain Walk

The smell of grilled meats and sweet, tangy sauces will hang in the air at Fountain Walk with the return of the Novi BBQ Fest. One of the first big food festivals of the season, the party features pitmasters from across the country. They’ll bring their A-game in hopes of winning a title, too. There’s also a selection of beer and whiskey to wash down the ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, beans, mac and cheese and more. Pete Davidson at Fillmore Detroit

‘Ugly Lies the Bone’ at Inspired Acting Company

This contemporary drama explores the long-term impact of combat service, trauma and recovery. It tells the story of a young veteran returning from Afghanistan who leans on family to rebuild her life. 8 p.m. Fri.-Sat. And 2 p.m. Sun. Movement at Hart Plaza

A Memorial Weekend tradition for a quarter century, Detroit’s electronic music festival is back at Hart Plaza. This year it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary as a product of Detroit-based promoters Paxahau. Headliners include Carl Cox, Carl Craig, Claude Von Stroke, Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson, Dom Dolla and many more. Sat.-Mon. Tickets start at $206.70. 1 Hart Plaza, Detroit. movementfestival.com

Sauce Off at Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill

This Macomb County cider mill doesn’t save the fun for fall; they have programming all year round. This weekend, it’s a party with a wing sauce competition. Guests can enjoy live music and sample bold sauces from local chefs and home cooks, and cast a vote for their favorite. Kid Cudi at Pine Knob Music Theatre

Grammy Award-winning artist Kid Cudi brings his “The Rebel Ragers Tour” to our area with Big Boi, A-Trak and Chip Tha Rapper. VIP and meet-and-greet packages are being sold, including a hilltop box rental with private area, VIP parking and your own server. 73rd Annual St. Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade

Marching bands, dancers, public officials, beauty queens, community groups and veterans will march along Harper at this annual festive holiday gathering. A panel of judges will determine the winner of categories like “best color guard,” “best patriotic float,” “best school band” and others. The parade starts at 1 p.m. and travels down Harper between Ridgeway and 11 Mile in St. Clair Shores. scsparade.org.

Memorial Day Concert at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery

This annual free event features patriotic songs performed by the Birmingham Concert Band. Look for the concert in front of the Temple of Memories at 3 p.m. Sunday. Also this weekend, the cemetery will host the 95th annual WWI Polar Bear Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Monday in front of the Polar Bear Monument. Reenactors in historically accurate military attire will give a salute to Michigan’s “Polar Bears,” a group of soldiers who made history as the first U.S. troops to fight the Russians more than 100 years ago. 621 W.
