The suspects in Sunday’s marijuana shop arson were arraigned Monday, July 13, according to the Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
Dalen Carruthers, 24, and Aqeel Baruti, 25, both from Detroit, are each facing one charge of third-degree arson. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety bond. They are suspected of breaking in and setting fire to Dacut Cannabis Company, 14921 LaPlaisance Road, on Sunday, July 12, shortly after 2 a.m.
Deputy Brady Cicero arrived on the scene and discovered a broken window and the building’s interior on fire, according to the sheriff’s office. It was determined that two suspects allegedly forced entry into the building and poured an accelerant inside before igniting it and fleeing.
Additional responding units established a perimeter in the area and the two suspects were located in a tree line nearby with the assistance of a police dog.
The Monroe Charter Township Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The Monroe City Police Department also assisted at the scene.
The suspects have not been assigned lawyers as of Tuesday, July 14. Dacut Cannabis Company is open, but only doing curbside pickup orders.
