The Detroit Tigers are in a rain delay.
First pitch between the Tigers and Cleveland Guardians on Monday, May 18, has been delayed due to inclement weather at Comerica Park. The opener of the four-game series was supposed to begin at 6:40 p.m., but it won’t start on time.
The game will start at 7:20 p.m.
Left-hander Framber Valdez is scheduled to start for the Tigers, opposed by Guardians right-hander Slade Cecconi.
The Tigers and Guardians are rivals in the American League Central.
The Guardians have a 26-22 record for first place in the AL Central, while the Tigers are struggling in fourth place with a 20-27 record, with 10 losses in their past 12 games.
“This is such a fun rivalry that’s developed, certainly over the last couple of years as both teams have been really good,” manager A.J. Hinch said before Monday’s game. “I have a lot of respect for how they go about it. We know the division runs through Cleveland. As much as we want to say otherwise, they’ve done it. We have to take that personally and overcome them and work to get to where we want to get to. That’s the brutal truth.”
