Week 4 of the Michigan Girls High School Flag Football League is in the books!
Hometown Life sports reporter Brandon Folsom is here to name the MVPs from each game around the region and explain why they stood out among the rest.
Reminder: HTL covers teams in Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Canton, Commerce Twp., Farmington, Farmington Hills, Garden City, Livonia, Milford, Northville, Novi, Plymouth, Redford, South Lyon, Wayne, Walled Lake, Westland, White Lake and Wixom.
NOVI 31, NORTH FARMINGTON 13
Aubrey Kirby, Novi: Helped the Wildcats close out their inaugural season with a win and a 2-2 record, catching two passes for 55 yards and a TD, pulling five flags on defense and intercepting a pass.
Layla Bohannan, North: Kept her team competitive by scoring both of the Raiders’ TDs and intercepting a pass in their regular-season finale.
WAYNE MEMORIAL 12, BELLEVILLE 0
Skyann Penn, Wayne Memorial: Sealed the Zebras’ third shutout of the season by returning an interception for a TD, showing why Wayne has arguably the best defense in Michigan.
REDFORD THURSTON 47, DETROIT CODY 0
Mi’Chale Owens, Redford Thurston: In a game where almost every Eagle contributed, Owens made plays on both sides of the ball, returning an interception for a TD and catching the ensuing two-point conversion pass to cap an eight-point play on her own.
DETROIT RENAISSANCE 12, REDFORD UNION 0
Amaya Tigney, Redford Union: It has been a down year for the Panthers, but Tigney has been the one constant as a lockdown defensive back. Her three interceptions capped one of the strongest individual defensive performances in the Hometown Life region this season.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS 19, CLINTON TWP. CHIPPEWA VALLEY 6
Angelina Gieleghem, Bloomfield Hills: While offensive stars Julia Finkelstein and Milan Thai-Tang continued to shine, Gieleghem added a 26-yard interception return for a TD to help secure a 4-0 regular season record.
NORTHVILLE 20, ANN ARBOR FATHER GABRIEL RICHARD 0
Izzie DeFore, Northville: The Mustangs needed a shutout to keep their playoff hopes alive and delivered with two goal-line stands. DeFore returned an interception 70 yards for a TD while adding two QB hurries and a tackle for loss.
Erin Lanigan, Father Gabriel Richard: The Irish kept it close behind Lanigan’s two interceptions, which stalled Northville’s typically efficient passing attack.
P-CEP PROWLERS 19, YPSILANTI LINCOLN 6
Taylor Bond, P-CEP: While the Prowlers’ defense led the way to a playoff berth, Bond helped the offense move the chains, catching three passes for 51 yards and a TD.
Ava Greene, Ypsilanti Lincoln: The Prowlers needed to hold Lincoln to six points or fewer to make the playoffs, and Greene did her best to play spoiler, finishing 7 of 24 passing for 141 yards, one TD and two interceptions, narrowly missing a few throws that could have changed the outcome.
AUBURN HILLS OAKLAND CHRISTIAN 26, BIRMINGHAM GROVES 6
Jalayah Buffin-Pitts, Birmingham Groves: One of the Falcons’ most improved players, she finished with two catches for 54 yards and five flag pulls.
CLAWSON 26, MADISON HEIGHTS BISHOP FOLEY 21
Brennan Gough, Clawson: As she has been all season, the QB was efficient again, finishing 9 of 13 passing for 122 yards, four TDs and two one-point conversions.
