The NBA Draft Combine was last week, with many NBA-hopeful prospects looking to improve their draft stock. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green recently reminisced on his own experience during the 2012 NBA Draft Combine, developing a relationship with an eventual nine-time All-Star.
“The NBA Combine is cool because you kind of get to know some guys that you know of, but you don’t really know. One relationship that I remember first beginning at the NBA Combine, and has stretched throughout the tenure of our careers, is that’s the first time I met Dame Lillard. And immediately right then we hit it off.”
Although Lillard went to a lesser-known school, the Weber State guard ended up going No. 6 overall and in hindsight was easily a top-three player from the 2012 draft class. Despite Golden State owning the No. 7 selection, they didn’t take Green there. The Warriors used the pick after Lillard to select Harrison Barnes from UNC, adding Draymond Green from Michigan State in the second round at No. 35.
