High schools in the Palm Beach County School District are toasting their seniors, who are walking across the graduation stage and into their future.
For those who aren’t graduating, the school year will stretch out for a couple more weeks.
Doesn’t seem that long ago that Superintendent Mike Burke was greeting students at the opening of the school year and celebrating the opening of a new school, Saddle View Elementary near the Arden residential community in the western part of the county.
Students and parents are now looking forward to two key dates — Memorial Day and the last day of school.
When is Memorial Day?
Memorial Day, held to honor military members who were killed in service, is the last Monday of May. This year, that date is May 25.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday, and there is no school for students or teachers.
When is the last day of school?
It’s coming up fast. The last day of school is Friday, May 29.
Memorial Day is thought to be the unofficial start of summer, but students might view Saturday, May 30 as the start of their summer.
Officially, summer doesn’t begin until June 21.
Which schools have not yet held their graduation ceremonies?
Monday, May 18 is graduation day for Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy as well as Royal Palm Beach and Spanish River high schools.
There are three more graduations set for May 19 — adult education students and seniors at Jupiter and Wellington high schools.
Park Vista, Dreyfoos School of the Arts and Forest Hill seniors graduate on May 20, with Suncoast, Seminole Ridge and Dwyer high schools closing out graduation season on May 21.
When does the 2026-27 school year begin?
Too soon to ask? The first day of school for students is August 10.
The first break of the school year is Labor Day, which falls on September 7.
When does the 2026-27 school year end?
The last day of the upcoming school year is Thursday, May 27. Because the last Monday of May is on May 31 in 2027, students won’t get the short week they had this year.
