What Morgan Wallen said about walking out with Steve Spurrier at Gainesville concert

Country music star Morgan Wallen, despite being a lifelong fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, knew how to cater to his Gainesville audience over the weekend.

Known for bringing out local celebrities during his pre-show walkout, Wallen tabbed Tim Tebow as his guest on Friday night, followed by Steve Spurrier on Saturday night.

In an Instagram post after Friday’s show, Wallen admitted Tebow caused him “a lot of bad memories as a Vols fan,” referring to Tebow’s playing career with the Gators.

During Saturday’s show, Wallen expressed his respect for Spurrier.

“Y’all make some noise for the one and only Steve Spurrier tonight,” Wallen said between songs.

“I know he’s a Gator but we got a lot more in common than I realized. He was also born in East Tennessee and his dad is a pastor as well. So me and him got along great back stage and man, what a gem that guy is.”

After playing for the Gators from 1964-66 and winning the Heisman Trophy in his final season, Spurrier eventually returned to Florida as the program’s head coach from 1990-2001. Spurrier piloted the Gators to six SEC titles and the program’s first national championship in 1996.

Against Wallen’s Vols, Spurrier amassed an 8-4 record during his time coaching the Gators.
