Report: New York Giants remain hopeful Malik Nabers will play in Week 1

New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers underwent a second procedure on his right knee earlier this offseason following his torn ACL and meniscus injury from Week 4 of the 2025 season. The cleanup addressed scar tissue causing stiffness, but the team doesn’t view it as a significant setback.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that the Giants “remain hopeful” that Nabers will be able to play in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants remain hopeful that Nabers will be ready for Week 1, a source told ESPN. The Giants open the season Sept. 13 with a “Sunday Night Football” matchup with the rival Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium.

New York was optimistic at the start of the year that Nabers would be ready for the beginning of training camp in late July. That has since been pushed back to later in the summer given the difficulty of his recovery.

Nabers’ original surgery occurred on Oct. 28, 2025. Early optimism for a swift recovery has moderated as the timeline has been extended due to rehabilitation challenges. The 22-year-old standout, selected sixth overall in 2024, recorded 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie before his injury limited him to 18 receptions for 271 yards in 2025.

While concerns exist regarding long-term knee health, the Giants express confidence in Nabers’ availability for the Sept. 13 opener. His participation in training camp — if any — will provide further clarity on his progress.
