Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s kerfuffle has really driven home for me a trend I’ve been picking up on for some time now in the political arena (“Sean Duffy launches show about family road trip,” May 11).
It’s the move where you are given someone’s reason for something and you change that reason to something that vilifies that person. For example, Duffy starts hearing that some folks are critical of his road trip reality show with the whole family as “out of touch” when gas prices are soaring amid the US war with Iran. His comeback is that apparently some folks just don’t care about this country’s upcoming 250th birthday.
Let’s review — we think you’re being tone deaf putting out your mostly petroleum produced reality TV series when gas prices are insanely high because of an unpopular war, and what came back out was you’re upset because you don’t want you to celebrate America.
So, if you don’t like someone’s reason, you rework it and then reassign it to said person.
That’s the only part grinding my gears. From the clips I’ve seen on the news, The Great American Road Trip looks like it was a lotta fun. And I suppose while I’m at, it I’ll cop to some pettiness: It is this petty and jealous person’s humble opinion that you shouldn’t go around disavowing people of what they think and how they feel in this real world.
