Florida softball will get a rematch with Georgia Tech on May 17, needing one more win to clinch the 2026 Gainesville Regional title
The Florida Gators (50-10) advanced in the winners bracket with an 8-0, five-inning win over Georgia Tech on May 16. UF has outscored its first two opponents in regional play by a 20-0 margin.
“We only had to play five innings, which I think is always good,” Florida softball coach Tim Walton said. “I’m never going to be critical of eight runs, 12 runs. I think it’s important for us to maintain the confidence and get off of our feet as early as we can.”
Florida starting pitcher Keegan Rothrock has thrown eight scoreless innings through UF’s first two regional games. Rothrock (28-6) threw five scoreless innings against the Yellow Jackets, allowing just four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
“Obviously it helps with confidence a lot but at the same time it’s just flushing this game and just moving on to the next,” Rothrock said. “Whoever the next opponent is just focusing on them and again just going back out there and making good pitches.”
Georgia Tech (32-28) kept its season alive with a 4-1 win over Texas State on May 16. The Yellow Jackets staved off elimination thanks to another stellar pitching performance from Madalyn Johnson, who allowed one run over seven innings pitched to pick up her second win in the Gainesville Regional. Johnson allowed six hits, walked two and struck out two.
Georgia Tech would need to beat Florida twice on May 17 to win the regional in the double-elimination tournament.
