Colts' Anthony Richardson honored by high school with jersey retirement

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson recently had his jersey retired at his high school, Eastside High in Gainesville, Florida.

Richardson recorded 4,633 yards through the air and 37 passing touchdowns across four seasons at Eastside High. The talented quarterback was credited with 1,633 yards on the ground as well, while also scoring an extremely impressive 41 rushing touchdowns.

He went on to play his college football at Florida before being the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft by the Colts.

“It doesn’t feel real that they just retired my jersey,” Richardson said on his Instagram account. “I’m so thankful.”

Following the jersey retirement ceremony, Richardson spoke with Kevin Brockway of the Gainesville Sun about where things stand with the Colts in the midst of a trade request.

The Colts made the decision last summer to make Daniel Jones their starting quarterback and then re-signed him in free agency this offseason, leaving Richardson’s status with the team up in the air.

Unless a trade materializes prior to training camp, Richardson will presumably battle with Riley Leonard for the backup quarterback role.

All that said, the ex-high school star has nonetheless received the ultimate honor from his former team.
