Marshalls proposed at Oakdale Commons, first in Binghamton area

A Marshalls department store could be coming to the Binghamton area.

A Memorandum of Lease between Spark JC, LLC and Marshalls of M.A., Inc. was signed on May 12 for a proposed Marshalls location within the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City, according to documents filed with the Broome County clerk’s office.

The lease indicates the store would be opposite JCPenney within the mall, and further notes the “existing tenants” of the proposed location could include Express, Claire’s and Bath & Body Works.

While Marc Newman of Spark JC, LLC said the Bath & Body Works store in the mall closed “within the last couple of months,” Express and Claire’s remained open as of May 15.

Managers at both stores said they did not have any information about the stores’ future at Oakdale Commons.

Newman said he could not confirm any information regarding the proposed Marshalls at this time, and the retail chain’s press office did not return a request for comment May 15.

According to the lease, the proposed location within the Oakdale Commons would consist of “a portion of a one-story building,” encompassing 27,198 square feet. The lease also indicates the proposed Marshalls would have both an exterior and interior entrance.

What is Marshalls?

Marshalls is a clothing and home chain department store owned by TJX Companies Inc., which also owns TJ Maxx and HomeGoods.

While the Binghamton area has both a TJ Maxx and HomeGoods already, both located on the Vestal Parkway, Marshalls in the Oakdale Commons would be the first in the area.

The nearest Marshalls store to Binghamton is located in Cortland.
