Spotify swapped its minimalist logo for a disco ball, sparking questions online about whether the redesign is here to stay.
The disco ball debuted as the music platform reached its 20th anniversary, which celebrated by giving users the opportunity to join a “Party of the Year(s)playlist,” which allows them to rediscover their all-time listening history, according to a Spotify X post.
While Spotify has not addressed the icon change, the theme for the “Party of the Year(s) is a disco ball, leading many to believe the icon may be temporary.
The change — even if temporary — has gotten mixed feedback online.
“I’d love to celebrate the death of flat design, but this is just an anniversary thing. They turned 20 last month,” one user on Reddit wrote.
“It’s kind of annoying because it looks like it looks like it’s in the middle of downloading or installing,” another comment said.
