Somers man killed after vehicle crashes into tree identified

An 85-year-old man died Thursday morning after a one-car crash in Somers, according to New York State Police.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. near Warren Street and West Hill Drive.

Vehicle struck tree, police say

A preliminary investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Somers found that a 2013 Honda driven by Gerard M. McKenna, of Somers, was traveling eastbound on West Hill Drive toward Warren Street when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

McKenna was the only person inside the vehicle.

Investigation ongoing

Police said McKenna was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
