This week’s students were nominated for academic achievements, personal growth, setting an example and a commitment to service.

Eliot Buchhop, Brighton High School

Eliot, a senior, is a hardworking and determined young man who consistently demonstrates maturity, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, or at work, Eliot approaches every commitment with focus and dedication. He’s naturally curious and enjoys understanding how things work, which has fueled his interest in engineering and finance.

After undergoing significant dental surgeries and living with missing teeth for several years, Eliot learned to rise above adversity and remain confident despite difficult experiences growing up. That resilience has shaped him into someone who works hard, supports others and values relationships deeply.

Eliot has been a dedicated member of our lacrosse program, helping lead his teams to two regional championships while building meaningful connections with teammates and coaches. He also volunteers at a soup kitchen and participates in cleanups on the Huron River.

Maria Kilpela, Fowlerville High School

Maria, a senior, has made the most of her high school career through her commitment to excellence both in the classroom and in athletics. As a varsity soccer and cross country athlete, she has demonstrated dedication, perseverance and the ability to balance demanding schedules while continuing to excel academically.

Maria has challenged herself by completing four AP courses, all while proving herself to be an outstanding time manager and an incredibly hard worker who consistently strives to achieve the goals she sets for herself. Her determination and discipline have paid off as she graduates ranked in the top eight of her class.

Maria’s well-rounded success and quiet leadership set an outstanding example for others to follow, showing what it means to be a true Gladiator.

Emerson Poss, Howell High School

Emerson, a senior, is an outstanding student who demonstrates excellence both in the classroom and in athletics. Enrolled in AP courses while maintaining a very high GPA, Emerson consistently demonstrates dedication, discipline and a strong commitment to academic success.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Emerson is involved in the TIES Peer-to-Peer Program and is a member of the volleyball team. She was recently honored with a scholarship recognizing her exceptional balance of academics and athletics throughout her high school career.

Brayden Sebra, Pinckney Community High School

Brayden, a senior, consistently shows respect to both classmates and teachers, and his kindness makes him someone others genuinely enjoy being around. Brayden is open-minded and thoughtful, always willing to listen to different ideas and perspectives, which helps create a welcoming environment for everyone. He also demonstrates strong leadership by encouraging others, staying responsible and leading by example both inside and outside the classroom.

In addition to his outstanding character, Brayden is excelling academically as he approaches graduation. His positive attitude, leadership and dedication make him an excellent choice for Student of the Week.

Kaleigh Powers, Kensington Woods Schools

Kaleigh is enrolled in Early Middle College, completing her final year at Kensington Woods, and she’s graduating at the top of her class. She’ll graduate with an associate’s degree in digital media arts and a certificate in graphic design from Washtenaw Community College. Her hard work was further recognized this semester when she was received high honors at WCC’s Honors Convocation.

Kaleigh started the band Grace Marie with a fellow Kensington Woods graduate and has performed in New York City. She plans to continue developing the band after graduation. She also works as a social media director for a local business and plans to keep growing her career in marketing and design while continuing her music.
