CHICAGO — The Brooklyn Nets entered Sunday’s 2026 NBA Draft Lottery with the likely hope that they would either keep the No. 3 overall pick or move up in the draft. None of those outcomes came true for Brooklyn as they fell a few spots to the No. 6 pick, but there is one player who believes that his particular skillset separates him from his peers.
“My ability to play with anyone and match with any team. It doesn’t matter what team you put me on, I’m gonna fit with whatever the coach needs me to do,” Houston guard Kingston Flemings during his media availability Wednesday at the Combine. Flemings is one of a few guards expected to be selected somewhere between No. 5 and No. 10 so he’s likely under consideration for the Nets at No. 6.
“All the guards in this [class are] really talented, but I think just my ability to really just learn the players around my team, and then do what I can to make them look the best on the court,” Flemings continued. “At the end of the day, like I said, everyone in the NBA is talented, so I’m just trying to show those talents whenever I can.”
After three forwards are projected to be selected within the first four picks, there seems to be an a grouping of guards afterwards that includes players like Flemings, Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr., Illinois guard Keaton Wagler, and Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. Flemings, Acuff, and Brown are projected by most to have similar roles in the NBA as on-ball creators and the former Houston Cougar could have the unique combination of skills and traits that make him a more interesting prospect than the rest.
“He has become a very popular prospect with a comforting mix of physical tools, burst, pull-up shooting, playmaking IQ and both late-clock and late-game poise,” Jonathan Wasserman wrote about Flemings in his latest mock draft for Bleacher Report. It’s left to be seen who Nets general manager Sean Marks and the rest of the front office decides to take at No. 6 come Jun. 23, but Flemings seems about as good an option as anyone else in his range.
