Green Bay Packers claim former USC WR Brenden Rice off waivers

As several USC wide receivers get set to enter the NFL, another one is headed to a new team. On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers claimed former Trojans wideout Brenden Rice off of waivers.

“Rice (6-3, 210) was the 225th overall pick of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024,” Zach Kruse of Packers Wire wrote. “The Packers will be his fifth team; Rice previously spent time with the Chargers, Raiders, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, including stints on the practice squad with the Raiders, Patriots and Seahawks. He appeared in three games for the Chargers as a rookie in 2024, playing three snaps on offense and 10 more on special teams.

“Rice gives the Packers another talented pass-catcher to compete for a roster spot at the bottom of the receiver depth chart this summer.”

After starting off his college football career at Colorado, Rice transferred to USC and spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Trojans. In two years in Cardinal and Gold, he caught 84 passes for 1,402 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Of course, Rice’s quarterback at USC, Caleb Williams, plays for the Chicago Bears. It appears as though the two of them will now have an NFC North rivalry on their hands.
