The New York Giants’ opponents for the 2026 NFL season are already known, but the full schedule has yet to be released.
CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo believes a primetime matchup against the Washington Commanders would be the ideal addition to the Giants’ schedule next season.
This wish is a nod to the 40th anniversary of the Giants’ first Super Bowl win, which came at Washington’s expense after the Giants blanked them (17-0) in the NFC title game before blowing out John Elway’s Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. A primetime home game against Washington would give the Giants an opportunity to honor their first Super Bowl championship team.
The Giants defeated the Commanders, 17-0, in the 1986 NFC Championship Game to advance to the Super Bowl that year. The Giants’ rivalry with their NFC East foe remains strong, with Washington poised to contend once again behind a healthy Jayden Daniels in 2026.
The Giants boast a more competitive roster heading into next season. A victory against a division rival with such historical significance could provide New York with significant momentum in the latter half of the season, should the schedule include that matchup.
