Heat lamp blamed for Cleveland house fire Tuesday morning, officials say

CLEVELAND – No injuries were reported after a house fire Tuesday morning in the 800 block of Westview Street, authorities said.

The Cleveland Fire Department and mutual aid from the Newtown Fire Department were dispatched at 8:41 a.m. for a reported structure fire, officials said.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor on multiple sides of the home.

The fire was brought under control about 90 minutes later, but firefighters stayed to extinguish hot spots, officials said.

An excavator was used to pull away parts of the walls and roof so crews could reach remaining fire, officials said.

The fire was contained to the second floor, but the basement and first floor sustained heavy smoke and water damage, authorities said.

Crews cleared the scene by 2:19 p.m., officials said.

One person was inside the home at the time and was alerted by working smoke alarms, authorities said.

The cause was a heat lamp that fell to the floor, officials said.

The department thanked Bonde’s Quik Mart, Chester’s Chicken, and Bob and Mary Bauer for providing food to crews at the scene.
