When will it feel like summer in Binghamton? Here's the 2026 outlook

If you’re eager for dry, summer weather in the Binghamton area, you may be waiting just a bit longer.

AccuWeather long-range forecaster Paul Pastelok said May and June are going to be quite rainy with more inconsistency in temperatures.

The first day of summer falls on Sunday, June 21, 2026, but consistent summer weather may not start for Binghamton residents until July.

Here’s what Pastelok said to expect from the weather as we approach the end of spring and the beginning of summer.

Regarding precipitation, Pastelok said there will be breaks from rain in Binghamton, but they will be short, as May and June are looking to be wet months.

Though the weather may become a bit more consistent after May 18, he said June could bring more showers and several thunderstorms.

The amount of precipitation also affects the consistency of temperatures, Pastelok explained. If the area continues to see a higher amount of precipitation, this means there are cold fronts and “disturbances” that are moving into the area, which in turn keeps temperatures cooler.

After May 18, Pastelok expects to see temperatures rise and become more consistent, and further said “the worst of the chill should be gone and beyond us.”

Despite the fact that the temperatures will begin growing a bit more consistent in late May, the area will continue to see a bit of “back and forth,” regarding showers and thunderstorms in June, leading to low humidity and slightly cooler temperatures.

Because of the amount of precipitation Binghamton is getting, he said there is a slight chance for flooding in the early part of the summer.

As we get later into the summer season, Pastelok predicts a higher chance of severe weather, specifically in the month of July, which could bring in one or two powerful storms with possible damaging winds.

Overall, even though summer is on its way, those eager for hot, dry days may be waiting a little while longer.
