A fishing tournament yielded thousands to help support individuals across Southwest Florida.
The Lee County Electric Cooperative said in a news release that its 29th Annual LCEC United Way Fishing Tournament raised nearly $85,000 for the United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades counties.
The organization held the catch-and-release tournament at D and D Matlacha Bait and Tackle, 3922 Pine Island Road N.W., where it has taken place for decades.
Organizers said that, in total, 79 boats and over 240 anglers participated in the tournament and took part in the winning and bidding on nearly 200 raffle and auction items.
Fishing tournament winners include Grand Slam – Team Hamilton & Hamilton; Largest Trout – Team Cozy Kittenz; Largest Red Fish – Team Hamilton & Hamilton; Largest Snook – Team Hamilton & Hamilton; and Mystery Fish – Team Landis + Gyr.
