According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are signing Ameer Abdullah.

Why did the Jaguars sign free agent RB Ameer Abdullah?

Abdullah was a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. He spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 13 games. Abdullah carried the ball 14 times, averaging 4.3 yards per rush with a touchdown.

When on the field offensively, Abdullah was often utilized in the passing game, totaling 17 targets. He caught 16 of those passes for 99 yards.

To go along with his contributions on offense, Abdullah handled some kick return duties as well, averaging 29.6 yards per return on 19 attempts.

Abdullah adds some experience to the Jaguars’ relatively young running back room. The top three spots on the depth chart seem pretty well established with Bhayshul Tuten, Chris Rodriguez, and LeQuint Allen, but we often saw the Jaguars’ roster four running backs in 2025.

We do not know the contract details for Abdullah yet, but I would guess that he is not going to be a roster lock.

Over his 11-year NFL career, Abdullah has rushed for 2,054 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s also caught 219 passes for 1,567 yards with 11 more scores. Twice, he has surpassed 500 rushing yards in a season.

Abdullah has played for Detroit, Minnesota, Carolina, Las Vegas, and Indianapolis.
