Two huge Round 2 Game 4s in the NBA playoffs are on the schedule for Sunday, May 10.
First, the New York Knicks can complete a sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers and advance to their second consecutive Eastern Conference finals. Later, the San Antonio Spurs are going for their third straight win over the Minnesota Timberwolves as they look to get one step closer to a Western Conference finals berth.
The games will follow the NBA draft lottery.
The Knicks, playing as well as any team in the postseason alongside the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, will be seeking their seventh consecutive win in the playoffs dating to mid-way in their first-round series.
New York is not only getting it done offensively in the playoffs (No. 2 in scoring offense) but on defense, too (No. 1 in scoring defense). They’re holding the 76ers under 100 points per game in the series and executing in crunch time. They turned a tight Game 3 into a double-digit victory by holding the 76ers to just three baskets from the 7:27 mark on. It was the second consecutive game that the 76ers didn’t score above 20 points in the final quarter, allowing the Knicks to pull away.
Philadelphia had the return of Joel Embiid in Game 3 after injuries kept him out of Game 2. While Embiid played 35 minutes and scored 18 points, his presence couldn’t spark the road win. The 76ers rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Boston Celtics in the first round, but down 3-0 is another task as no team has ever come back while facing that series hole.
The playoffs are all about responding. After the Spurs lost the opener in their series against the Timberwolves, the young Spurs have recorded two impressive victories, to regain home-court advantage.
First came the Game 2 rout and then came Game 3 on the road when Victor Wembanyama had a historic performance in scoring a playoff career-high 39 points, along with 15 rebounds and five blocks in a 115-108 win. He’s just the fourth player in 52 years to have that stat line in the playoffs.
Can Wembanyama and the Spurs stay perfect on the road in the playoffs and take a 3-1 series lead back to San Antonio or can Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves respond and even up the series in front of their home fans?
