Chiles dominates Merritt Island to win FHSAA Class 2A state title

Chiles left no doubt about its dominance Saturday morning.

The Timberwolves swept Merritt Island, 3-0, to capture the FHSAA Class 2A beach volleyball championship at Florida State’s beach volleyball courts, ensuring the state title remains in the capital city.

Chiles won each of the three deciding duals in straight sets, controlling the match from the outset.

Junior Logan Abernathy, a UAB commit, and sophomore Riley Warmath set the tone at No. 5, defeating Merritt Island’s Delaney Petit and Reece Loggins in a 2-0 shutout. The momentum continued at No. 4, where Riley Boykins and Callie Rowse secured another straight-set victory over Khloe Horton and Lydia Scott.

The Timberwolves clinched the championship at No. 1, as senior Natalie Gibson and junior Meg Hearn, a TCU commit, swept Bella Becker and Amber Ives, both juniors, to seal the 3-0 match victory.

With the win, Chiles finished the season 21-1. Many members of the beach volleyball squad also contributed to the school’s indoor volleyball state championship team in the fall, capping a dominant year for the program.
