The 1966 Texas Western championship team has lost another piece of its history. David Palacio, a guard on the Hall of Fame national championship team and a 1964 Austin High School graduate, died at the age of 80.
The El Paso native also played for three Austin High teams that won city championships before graduating from UTEP with a business degree. He later moved to Los Angels and worked in the music industry before retiring in 2008, at which time he was the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Univision Music Group.
On the championship team, which was his third year with the program, Palacio averaged 0.9 points per game.
There are now five living members of the 1966 Texas Western national championship team: Louis Baudoin, Albert Togo Railey, Nevil Shed, Willie Worsley and David Lattin.
