There were 21,611 votes cast in the race for the Joe Orthodontics High School Athlete of the Week poll.
Silverado softball player Victoria Patino ended with 56.89% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.
The senior received 12,294 votes, beating out 15 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Patino went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, three runs, and four stolen bases in a 13-3 victory over Victor Valley on April 28. She followed that by going 4 for 4 with two RBIs, four runs, and two stolen bases in a 16-5 victory on April 30.
In the voting, Patino beat classmate Isabel Maust, who received 30.55% (6,560 total votes).
The nominees were selected based on performances between April 27 to May 2.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
