Carving stations, retro vibes await at Wally's travel center in Indiana

Road trip-themed Wally’s is opening its first Indiana travel center just in time for summer vacations.

The store at 4155 S. Albert White Drive in Whitestown plans to open in mid-June.

The 53,000-square-foot center, off Interstate 65 and Albert S. White Drive, will offer freshly prepared foods, apparel, gift items, and, of course, fuel. It will have EV charging stations.

The Whitestown center will be the third location for Wally’s, which brands itself as the “Home of the Great American Road Trip” with a Route 66 theme and retro decor.

The store, which will be Wally’s largest, was initially expected to open in late 2024. That date was pushed back to fall 2025, but the project was hampered by weather, said Bill Gunn, senior manager for store operations.

“We’re super excited about the site in Whitestown and the growth in that area on the Highway 65 corridor, and we’re really excited to move into Indianapolis,” he said.

Carving stations, beef jerky bar at Wally’s

Started by a pair of cousins with a Pontiac, Illinois, location in 2020 and then a Fenton, Missouri, stop in 2022, Wally’s features carving stations, beef jerky bars and popcorn stations; large restrooms — the Whitestown shop will have 20 private stalls for women, and 10 private stalls and 11 urinals for men — and a retro-themed gift shop.

The Whitestown store will also have more than 84 fuel pumps and about 20 EV charging stations.

Wally’s is primarily a car stop — not a semi-truck stop — but campers, buses and RVs are welcome.

More Wally’s

A few other Wally’s are in the works.

The company broke ground on a center in Independence, Missouri, in April 2026. It’s expected to open in the spring or summer of 2027.

Hiring at Wally’s

The company seeks to hire 150-200 people to work at the Whitestown store, and is hosting hiring events, with on-site interviews available next week.

Open positions include cashiers, kitchen team members, retail associates, convenience store staff, maintenance, ground crew and supervisors.

The hiring events will take place on May 15, 2-6 p.m., at Nexus Impact Center (Second Floor) 9511 Angola Court in Indianapolis; and on May 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building, 1300 E. 100 St. in Lebanon.
