Palm Beach projects to bring lane closures, traffic impacts

Palm Beach is warning residents and motorists of a series of upcoming and ongoing projects that may lead to traffic disruptions, including lane closures, detours and temporary delays across the island.

Work scheduled opver the coming weeks includes wastewater maintenance, watermain installation and roadway improvements, according to a Town Hall release issued April 28.

Officials said access to residences will be maintained during construction and advised drivers to follow posted signage and instructions when present in work zones.

The west end of Clarendon Avenue at Vita Serena is closed to traffic through Oct. 31 as contractors work on improvements to sanitary and stormwater pump stations. Residents and their vendors are being asked to park on their own property to help keep the roadway clear for traffic flow.

Additional intermittent impacts are expected from a project on Cocoanut Row between Royal Poinciana Way and Pendleton Avenue, where crews are installing a new water main. The work will require a southbound lane closure with flagging operations in place to maintain traffic flow.

The town advised drivers to use caution and allow extra travel time when traveling through affected areas.

The town also provided updates on several Florida Department of Transportation projects that are expected to bring additional lane closures and traffic shifts in and around Palm Beach and nearby West Palm Beach.

A project on State Road A1A/South Ocean Boulevard between S.R. 802/Lake Avenue and Ibis Way includes repaving, drainage upgrades, pedestrian signal and lighting improvements and bicycle lane accommodations. Daily and nighttime lane closures are expected with flagging operations, and pedestrian detours may occur.

Another project on State Road A1A/South Ocean Boulevard from Emerald Beach Way to S.R. 704/Royal Palm Way includes milling and resurfacing, traffic signal, drainage, sidewalk and lighting upgrades and updated pavement markings. Weekday lane closures with flagging operations are expected, along with temporary sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours.

A project on State Road 5/U.S. 1 between Belvedere Road and Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach includes resurfacing, pedestrian safety improvements, upgraded lighting, ADA-compliant curb ramps, drainage work and a new mid-block crosswalk. Intermittent lane closures in both directions may occur for concrete work through May 8.
