VOTE: Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for April 27-May 2 presented by Halifax Health

The polls are open!

It’s time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for the week of April 27-May 2.

Last week, Spruce Creek baseball player Ryder Ritch captured the honors, claiming 58% of the votes. The junior blasted two home runs in a regional quarterfinal victory over Flagler Palm Coast.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees for upcoming polls from across the area via email at cvinel@usatodayco.com. Please send a player’s name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.

To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Saturday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Emailed votes will not count.

Baseball

Jordan Livingston, Spruce Creek: The senior pitched 7⅔ innings against Hagerty in the Region 1-7A semifinals. He allowed just two hits, two walks and one run while striking out 11.

Tennis

Stanislav Valenteychik, Matanzas: The senior won the clinching tiebreaker in No. 3 singles to push the Pirates past top-seeded Innovation in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

Track and field

Tryce Mills, Spruce Creek: The senior launched a javelin throw of 57.96 meters to claim the Region 1-4A title.

Tauren Nicholson, DeLand: The senior was the Region 1-4A runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 7.21 meters.
