Conference tournament week for college softball has arrived, and the Lady Raiders are ready to set the tone. While the other Power 4 leagues were full of chaos over the weekend, Texas Tech closed the season by taking two of three games in a series against Baylor. The sweep included two shutout wins, highlighting the team’s pitching power with standout performances from the Red Raiders’ ace duo, Kaitlyn Terry and Nijaree Canady. Lately, the Red Raiders’ play has made it clear who’s running the show in the Big 12, entering the postseason with momentum and control.
The Red Raiders finished five games ahead of the rest of the conference standings, separating themselves as the clean Big 12 frontrunner entering tournament week.
Nationally, Texas Tech remains firmly in the spotlight. In the latest Softball America Top 25 rankings, Oklahoma (48-7) retained the No. 1 position for the second consecutive week, followed by Nebraska (43-6). Movement across the top 10 reflects the shift in the national picture, with teams such as Arkansas, Tennessee, and Oregon gaining ground in the list. Despite the volatility, Texas Tech (50-3) has remained a consistent presence among the nation’s top teams throughout the softball season.
The Big 12 Tournament is scheduled for May 7-9 at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, the same venue that hosts the Women’s College World Series. Heading into the postseason with a balanced roster, reliable pitching rotation, and a proven ability to control conference play, Texas Tech is positioned not only to compete for a Big 12 title, but to make a deeper run in the NCAA Tournament.
