In the mood for some live entertainment this weekend? Here are The Desert Sun’s picks for the can’t-miss live performances in the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities May 8-9.
HOT PICK
John Fogerty at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa
Rock: Former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty is on his “Legacy” tour following a 2023 legal victory to regain ownership of his song catalog from Concord Records, which had owned the rights since 2004.
In 2025, he released the album titled “Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years,” which features re-recorded versions of hits such as “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Have You Ever Seen The Rain.” But fans shouldn’t expect a reunion anytime soon, given the contentious breakup in 1972 and the subsequent lawsuits between Fogerty and his ex-bandmates.
However, you can expect to hear many CCR songs, including the hits he’s known for as a solo artist such as “Centerfield,” “Rockin’ All Over The World,” and more when he performs on Saturday, May 9, at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa.
If you go: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage. Tickets $129.50 to $299.50. aguacalientecasinos.com
BEST BETS
Chris Young at Morongo Casino Resort Spa
Country: If you watched the reality competition show “Nashville Star,” you likely remember Chris Young, the winner of season four from 20 years ago. Since then, he has released 10 albums and 11 hit singles. In 2017, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry at the invitation of Vince Gill and was inducted by Brad Paisley.
Young will perform on Friday, May 8, at Morongo Casino Resort Spa.

Palm Springs Symphony at Plaza Theatre
Classical: The Palm Springs Symphony will perform “May Musical Mischief: A Symphony of Surprises” on Saturday at the Plaza Theatre. The concert will feature renowned special guest, pianist John Novacek, who will present two works by George Gershwin. There will also be some unexpected twists and musical humor.

49 Winchester at Pappy and Harriet’s
Country: 49 Winchester blends the Americana sound of Appalachia with country rock, and has built a grassroots fan base through touring, and the band independently released the first three albums it recorded between 2014 to 2020. After signing to New West Records and touring with country artists such as Tyler Childers and Luke Combs, 49 Winchester’s fan base has continued to grow.
See for yourself when 49 Winchester performs on Saturday at Pappy and Harriet’s.
If you go: 7 p.m. Saturday, Pappy and Harriet’s, 53-688 Pioneertown Road, Pioneertown. Tickets $31.86. pappyandharriets.com.
