Texas A&M star freshman listed as out vs. Auburn in Game 3

No. 7 Texas A&M (34-10, 14-6 SEC) lost its first SEC series in several weeks after falling to No. 8 Auburn twice during Saturday’s doubleheader. Heading into Sunday afternoon’s final game of the series, the Aggies are looking to salvage a victory before hitting the road next weekend to take on Ole Miss. However, coach Mike Earley will now be without one of his star freshmen.

During the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, freshman third baseman Nico Partida suffered a lower-body injury after, yes, doing the splits in an attempt to make a defensive play, immediately hobbling to the dugout, and did not return to the game. This led Gavin Grahovac to take over at third, while reserve Blake Binderup took over first base duties.

Heading into Sunday’s game, Nico Partida is officially listed as OUT for the time this season, while Earley will likely provide an update after Game 3. While the timing isn’t great, Texas A&M’s depth will come into play before the SEC Tournament, and even though the Aggies host Prairie View on Tuesday, I don’t expect Partida to be rushed back.

Through 44 games, Nico Partida is hitting .317 with 52 hits and 12 home runs, and has been one of the more reliable bats in the lineup, while his defense has improved over the course of the year. Texas A&M will host Auburn for the final time on Sunday, May 3, at 1:00 p.m. CT.
