The Akron Police Department “was able to determine the threat was false and the Akron Zoo is safe,” zoo officials stated in a release.

The zoo will reopen on Monday, May 4.

“No injuries were reported from staff and visitors and all animals are safe,” zoo officials stated. “The zoo is grateful for the quick actions of Akron Zoo staff members and APD and Akron Fire Department.”

Guests who had tickets for Sunday, May 3 can contact the zoo for rescheduling and refund options, according to the zoo.

At around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, the Akron Zoo received the bomb threat, according to a release sent by the zoo.

“This is consistent with other zoos receiving similar threats in past days,” zoo officials stated in the media release. “The safety of all zoo employees, visitors and animals is top priority.”

Following the threat the zoo was evacuated and emergency management procedures were implemented. Akron police and fire were on the scene at the zoo assessing the situation.

A false bomb threat on Saturday, May 2 forced the Columbus Zoo to close and reopen on Sunday. A bomb threat was called into the Toledo Zoo on Friday, May 1.
