Instead of focusing on shot-making and strategies, today’s pickleball tip brings the focus back to one of the most important fundamental building blocks of a good player and that’s footwork.
Coach Mary’s Pickleball Tip of the Week: Focus on Footwork
If your footwork is on point, then every shot feels like it’s in slow motion. We turn to the experts at Aylex Pickleball Academy and Coach Brandon who share four drills and tips for flawless pickleball footwork both at the NVZ and the baseline.
Step 1: Pivot Step
Step 2: Shuffle step or crab walk
Step 3: Crossover Step
Step 4: Closed stance
Often, I see my students open to the net when they hit returns – wrong! Use a short pivot, push away, and create space to get your body behind your drive/return.
In summary, footwork is key to success in Pickleball. Move and prepare before the ball gets to you. Move through your shot, so you can get to the net.
