Commemorate Cinco de Mayo at The Breakers with a taste of Mexico

The Breakers in Palm Beach is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with special food-and-drink pairings inspired by Mexico’s popular culinary traditions.

Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for May 5, an annual Mexican commemoration of a key 1862 victory by the Mexican military over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla.

In the United States, the day has become one to celebrate with gusto, particularly with Mexican cocktails and eats.

On Tuesday, various Breakers’ restaurants will spotlight Mexican-inspired cocktails and dishes as part of suggested Cinco de Mayo pairings.

Here’s a taste, including onsite restaurants onsite at the resort, 1 S. County Road and 2 S. County Road, and also offsite at nearby eateries owned and operated by the resort:

At Flagler Steakhouse, 2. S. County Road, look for a special Cinco de Mayo version of the Palm Beach Famous cocktail ($22) with hibiscus-infused Siete Misterios Mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, Aperol, yuzu juice, fresh lime and hibiscus bitters.

The suggested pairing? Pork carnitas ($40) with refried beans, rice, and pico de gallo.

At the oceanfront Seafood Bar, 1 S. County Road, a Prickly Pear Margarita ($22) will be featured with a suggested pairing of a little-neck clam sauté ($36) with chorizo, garlic, serrano peppers and spicy-pepper butter crostini.

An Espumoso Passion Fruit Spritz ($22) — with Cimarron Blanco Tequila, passion fruit, Aperol and Champagne — will be offered at the resort’s HMF, 1 S. County Road.

The drink’s suggested pairing: adobo‑spiced pork belly with plancha‑seared watermelon, candied lime and jalapeño ($35).

At Echo, the pan-Asian restaurant at 230 Sunrise Ave., guests can opt to sip a Blue Ginger Margarita ($21), with Herradura Tequila, muddled blueberries, Grand Marnier, sour mix and fresh lime juice.

Its suggested pairing is Korean-style braised short-rib tacos ($37) served with house-made kimchi and crispy wontons.

At Henry’s, The Breakers’ Royal Poinciana Way restaurant, a watermelon margarita ($21) will be featured on Cinco de Mayo.

Fish tacos ($38) are the suggested pairing, with guacamole, cascabel crema, citrus slaw, queso fresco, pico de gallo and tortilla chips.
