Volusia-Flagler restaurants that closed in April

Gili’s Kitchen

After nearly three years, Gili’s Kitchen announced the permanent closure of its Ormond Beach restaurant on social media in April.

“This was not an easy decision. We are deeply grateful for the support, kindness, and loyalty you have shown us. It has been an honor to serve this wonderful community, celebrate your special moments, and share our food with your families,” the restaurant’s recent Facebook post reads, noting that its Jacksonville location remains in operation for dine-in, takeout and catering orders.

The brand’s original Northeast Florida restaurant opened in 2018, serving “kosher food with a twist” under Chef Gili. Its menu spans from the popular matzo ball soup to homemade corned beef sandwiches, falafel bowls and lamb burgers.

“Thank you for welcoming us into your lives and for being part of the Gili’s Kitchen family. We will truly miss seeing you in Ormond Beach,” the post continues.

Gili’s Kitchen was located at 188 E. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach.

OB Sports Corner Bar & Grill

In an April 21 statement posted online, OB Sports Corner Bar & Grill shared with the community news of its immediate closure.

“We are heartbroken to share that we will be closing following the unexpected passing of our owner, David Ruiz,” the restaurant’s recent Facebook post reads.

Ruiz, a New York City native, was an Ormond Beach resident who had been with the local sports bar, formerly Past Times Restaurant & Bar, since 2016, according to his Facebook profile.

“His restaurant became more than just a business, it was a gathering place where friendships were formed, laughter was shared, and everyone felt at home,” his obituary, posted by Lohman Funeral Home, reads.

“David had a deep love for the beach. He enjoyed surfing, sports, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he treasured time with his family,” it continues. “He was an incredible father and a proud grandfather.”

A memorial service to celebrate Ruiz’s life will take place at 2 p.m. May 7 at the Lohman Funeral Home, located at 733 W. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach.

“This place meant so much to David and so many people. It was where friends met up, where memories we made, and where everyone was always welcome. We are so grateful for all of our customers, friends and staff who supported us over the years,” the restaurant’s post continues. “You made this place what it was, and we will never forget that.”

OB Sports Corner Bar & Grill was located at 709 S. Nova Road in Ormond Beach.
