SPRINGFIELD— A teenager was killed in a fatal shooting in Springfield.
The shooting took place at the 5100 block of 11th Street on April 29, according to a news release from the Springfield Police Department.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two people with gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital.
One of the victims, a 17-year-old male, died of his injuries, while the other, a 20-year-old male, was treated and released.
Investigators said the shooting was a targeted act and not random. SPD is working to identify those involved and uncover a motive.
In the release, SPD asks the public to report any information they may have about the incident to Investigator Raven Rowland at 850-872-7545. Alternatively, they could report information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 850-785-8477.
“We know there are individuals in the community who have information about this incident,” SPD Chief Barry Roberts said in the release. “I urge them to come forward. Silence only allows this cycle of violence to continue.”
