Michigan alum, Raiders GM John Spytek has no problem drafting Ohio State players

Michigan alum and Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek did not select any players from his alma mater in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he has no problem drafting Ohio State players if available.

Appearing on the “Up and Adams” show April 29, Spytek explained why he and fellow Michigan alum Tom Brady, a minority owner of the Raiders, did not draft one of six Michigan players selected by other teams.

“We tried,” Spytek said on the show. “You know, the draft doesn’t quite go how you want it to go, and I;ve got to get rid of my biases. I told people all the time I’ll take a bunch of Ohio State guys cause they can play football.”

Spytek said that being a Wolverine was a minuscule factor in his draft selection process.

“That’s like one, one-millionth of the factor that we put in,” Spytek said. “You get a little bump if you’re a Michigan man, but we’re not running you up the draft board.”

Spytek played as an outside linebacker at Michigan from 1999 to 2002.
