Mansfield police arrested a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man around 9:15 p.m. April 29, shortly after an apparent drive-by shooting in the 200 block of Home Avenue, where a woman suffered a gunshot wound.
Officers responded to the area on a report of shots fired. A 21-year-old woman inside a residence was shot in the arm and someone took her to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital Emergency Department.
Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann said some good police work and help from the community resulted in patrol officers apprehending the suspects shortly after the incident.
“Patrol officers did a fantastic job and a big thank you to the community. That cooperation helped officers solve this as quickly as they did,” Bammann said.
“While en route, officers received a call about the suspects. Officers located the silver Chevy Cruz in the Lexington Avenue Drive-Thru and conducted a felony car stop,” Bammann said. The teen suspect was the driver, and Sean Favors, 18, was the front-seat passenger.
A 9-mm handgun and a .45-caliber handgun were found in the vehicle, Bammann said. Favors confessed to the shooting, Bammann added.
Both the 17-year-old boy and Favors, both of Mansfield, are charged with felonious assault – victim seriously harmed, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle -discharge, improperly discharging a firearm at or into habitation or school, carrying concealed weapons-handgun other than a dangerous, according to the police report. Favors remains in the Richland County Jail.
The 17-year-old boy is also charged with complicity, police said. He remains in the Richland County Attention Center.
